I'm starting to notice a trend in my life. As soon as the weather warms up, I begin hungering for my own home. Last year about this time, I was really "home"-sick. I even made Matt take me looking for new apartments/town homes to rent (remember my last neighbors -- I had motivation). We walked through a couple of model homes, way too large and pricey for our small family and income. After a couple months of agonizing and just wishing to be somewhere else, I finally came to terms with the fact that we really COULDN'T buy a house at that time.
Well, the house-hunger has already started again. Our new neighbors are wonderful, and so the only motivation I have now is to have my own house. Unfortunately, we don't have the money for a house payment each month, despite the falling house prices. We are actually very naive about buying houses -- luckily, Matt reminds me that we really don't know what we're doing. I've had to come to terms again this year that we still can't afford it, and we are getting a steal on rent. (Hey, our landlord is putting in central air!!) Since Matt's job hasn't changed, and we want to add another child to the mix, I think we're best to just stay put. Moral: The best things in life take time. OR My lot in life is to be an eternal renter.
I totally understand...we are headed off to Kentucky for dental school...four more years of renting and sometime in those four years we hope to have at least one child. We will come out of school WAY in debt and won't be any closer to getting a home. By then you should probably have one! The hardest part is that I want to paint and decorate!
ReplyDeleteI am also feeling EXTREMELY house hungry! But we just can't buy here, way too expensive for even a starter home. We're going to have to move out of the Seattle area first....someday it'll happen :).
ReplyDeleteI have to keep reminding myself that even when we do eventually buy a house, that does not necessarily mean our lives will be perfect... because sometimes I feel like that's all I need to make me happy.
