Old Habits Die Hard
Ever notice something that you do specific to a location or time? You don't do it this way anywhere else, just in that one place? Well, today I realized something I do that I don't think will ever change, and it all started when I was in elementary school. At some point in my life, I decided to start answering the phone at my parents' house very politely. When it would ring, I'd pick up the receiver, and very professionally say, "Hello, Katschkes [my maiden name], How may help you?" I got so many compliments on that greeting. My parents would get comments like, "Wow, she's a very polite little girl!" or "Who's your secretary?" Eventually, I cut my greeting down to "Hello, Katschkes." Today when I answered the phone at my own house, I just said "Hello." After hanging up the phone, I realized that I never answer, "Hello, Wheelwrights." I do, however, still answer my parents phone, "Hello, Katschkes." I never just answer with a "Hello!", and I never answer the phone in a similar manner anywhere else, just there. I'm sure I stump everybody when they call for my mom or dad, and they get an old-fashioned greeting. I'm sure that I'll always answer my parents' phone the same way --some things just never change.

When I was a receptionist, I would answer the phone "Roger Gregg Company" AT HOME. That's when you know you work too much.
ReplyDeleteI've heard Josh say "Hello, Waldrons" at his parents house before. I pointed it out to him and asked why he did it because I thought it was funny. I haven't heard him do it since.
