1. My husband has a strong stomach, is very calm, and knows what to do in a "think-quick" situation.
2. My oldest brother is a doctor who doesn't mind being bugged with urgent medical questions on a Sunday.
3. Digital cameras, email, and cell phones
4. A pediatric office that has "after-hours" in their clinic on Sundays.
5. Jackson's pediatrician was the after-hours doctor.
6. Modern medicine and local anesthetic.
7. A child who calms quickly, despite freaking out and throwing massive fits.
8. It was Super-Bowl Sunday, so the clinic was not very full.
9. Very calm nurses and doctor.
10. The cut didn't go all the way through the eye lid and that he didn't hit his eyeball -- that would have been very bad since the cut is exactly where the valve is that was surgically placed last April.
Now, if you have a weak stomach, I suggest you turn away because here are the pictures from Jackson's run-in with the table and with the doctor's needle.
Four Stitches. How did this happen, you ask? Jackson decided mid-dinner that we needed a show, or something because he started dancing. During one of his "moves," he bent down and hit his head on the table. Thank goodness his eye was closed. He stayed pretty calm. We called my brother and emailed the first picture to him to get an idea of whether or not we should go into the doctor. Obviously, the answer was yes. When Jackson found out we were going to the doctor and would need a band-aid, he started crying. He hates doctors and band-aids (that's another post).
Anyway, we went in to his pediatrician's office and they fixed him up. Three of us had to hold him down to even get the band-aid on with the local anesthetic cream, and then when it came time to actually put the stitches in, they had to strap him into one of these things -- called a papoose board.
Anyway, we rewarded Jackson with an ice cream cone for being so brave and doing his best. He cried, of course, and hates the band-aid on his head most of all. Too bad I have to remove it 5-7 times a day to apply ointment -- oh, joy.
Oh, poor Jackson!! Good for him (and you guys) for making it through the doctor visit, and thank goodness it didn't hit the valve. Wow, scary.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he's okay. They had to strap Luke to a papoose board when he had his finger stitched up. That is crazy.
ReplyDeleteSheesh!!! Just when you think things are going along fine the kids try to kiss themselves!!!
ReplyDeletePoor baby! I hope he's feeling better.
ReplyDeleteHe is such a strong little guy!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are lucky your pediatrician's office has Sunday hours! Kids do seem to have a crazy ability to have medical problems when the doc is out.
ReplyDeletePoor Jackson and Jackson's parents!
Oh, Lemira! Wow. What a brave parent you are!!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness. poor Jackson. those table corners are just the right size for children eye accidents. that was so great that it was Jackson's pediatrician that was there. it looks better already with the stitches. so glad it didn't pierce any deeper.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so awful. I remember Madi's stitches last year and it is so hard as a Mom to watch them strapped down like that. What a blessing that it didn't get his eye. Life with kids is always an adventure:0)!
ReplyDeleteOH! How Awful and Scary!!! Eyelids do heal very fast, though. Congratulations to all three of you for working together in an emergency situation. I love you all.
ReplyDeleteMom-Ruth Ann
Oh dear me!!
ReplyDeleteAAuuurrrgghhhhh!!!!! I would have screamed.....he is tough, you are tough.
ReplyDeleteOh my word, that's so crummy! What a trooper! Sorry...hope he feels better and heals quickly. Way to go for looking on the bright side of it all!
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt want to be strapped in that thing either! I dont remember them using something like that when mike got his stiches under his eye. HA HA but we are talking about caliente here.
ReplyDeleteJackson is a little trooper!!!
Poor kid...poor parents! I am glad that his eye is fine (and that before too long the eye lid will be back to normal as well!)
ReplyDeleteI am glad that everything worked out, and that I have an oval table...hopefully I will not have to deal with that!
