Computer on the Fritz
This week has been most eventful, however, our home computer is on the fritz. I'm using Matt's work lap top (yes, BYU does give out very nice laptops for their employees to use). I have a lot of fun things to post about a family wedding, Jackson's first mini-golf game, and our outing to Bridal Veil Falls. However, all of the pictures are on our other computer, and we think the hard drive is dying. We're crossing our fingers that we don't lose all of our great pictures and such. We haven't been backing them up -- you know, burning them up on CDs near as often as we should have been. Anyway, I hope Matt gets everything up and working ASAP. I'm realizing just how much I depend upon the computer to pay bills, check the bank account, balance my checkbook, and correspond with people. You'd think I've lost my right arm.

I played some game the other day and they asked, "If your house was on fire and all your family members and pets were safe, what would you save?" Everyone was saying scrapbooks and I said, "My computer hard drive!" You really don't realize how much important stuff is on that thing.

ReplyDeleteHere's an easy game to play.
Here's an easy thing to say:
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!
If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
Then your situation's hopeless, and your system's gonna crash!
You can't say this?
What a shame sir!
We'll find you
Another game sir.
If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
That's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'Cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!
When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risc,
Then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM.
Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom!
I don't know if you remember LeMira, but we lost everything on our computer when we lived in Wymount thanks to Jake's little brother. It makes me sick to even think about it. Infact, I'm feeling a little sick right now. Matt's little poem is pretty catchy although I don't understand a word of it. Nerd poetry. Speaking of nerds, I found a floppy disc in a box of jake's stuff that he's been hanging onto. He wouldn't let me throw it out because he wants to see what's on it. But where are we going to find a working computer that has a floppy drive??!!
