Bright Lights and Loud Noises
Matt and I love the 4th of July. I didn't know what real fireworks looked like until I came to Provo to school. First off, since I lived in dry, dry Nevada, we couldn't have the ones you buy in the store and take home -- too much fire danger around. Thus, we went to the community - sponsored show. In my small community, the fireworks show lasted about 30 minutes, but there were very few with lots of time to kill between them. We all really went to watch the fires that would start from the embers and burn up the side of the mountain. The question was always, "How big will the fire be this year?" The most popular fireworks were the really loud ones that flash a bright light and BOOM so loud that you're deaf for a month. Now, I say popular because that was the one we saw/heard the most.
Now that you have my childhood background, you'll understand why we were so excited to go to the Stadium of Fire and watch the fireworks. We have tried to get Jackson into fireworks, but he's been deathly scared of them from the very beginning. The first year of his life, he was in the hospital, so that doesn't count. Since then, however, we've tried to do our own in our driveway, and every year he screams and plugs his ears. The the only "fireworks" he enjoys are those little "pop-its"; you know, you throw them down on the ground.
Maybe one day we can get him to enjoy the bright lights and deafening sounds. In the meantime, I guess I don't have to worry about a pyromaniac.

We loved living in Utah because we were able to buy lots of "Boom Boom" (as Erik called it). It's pretty much illegal in most of California, so it was very exciting for us.
ReplyDeleteuh, you were supposed to take me with you?
ReplyDeleteKyle loves those little firecrackers also. He learned how they worked this year and had a ball!
