Way Behind

I have so many posts now to do, that I'm feeling very, very behind. Oh, well. I'll get to them all soon enough. Today, however, I feel like mentioning some words of wisdom that I heard last night at the adult session of our Stake Conference (a church meeting for the adults in our church area). We have the privilege of having Elder Allan F. Packer and his wife presiding and speaking to us this weekend.
Last night Matt stayed home with Jackson so I could attend the adult session (I forgot to ask someone to babysit for us). I'm so glad I went. I first realized just how much I will miss some people in my ward and stake when we move (which could be very soon, by the way).

I felt like the theme was to stick to the simple truths, the ones we know to be true that will never change despite the popular fads and trends in the world. Both Elder Packer and Sister Packer talked about trials and challenges. They mentioned that we may not like them or understand them, but we have the ones we do to make us who we are to become. We NEED them. Also, Elder Packer reminded us that this is a great time to be alive, despite the hard times ahead and the conflicting morals in the world today. He told us that we could be the Helamans and Moronis of this generation.

Finally, he told us that we should learn to listen to the spirit. We need to learn how to recognize it so that we can be anywhere to receive inspiration, not just at church or the temple. We never know when we'll get ideas or thoughts that will help solve our problems. Elder Packer said that the solution to raising our children in a time of chaos is to learn to have the spirit with us at all times and to hear it and then go do.

Anyway, those are the gems I've picked up so far. Now it's time to go finish getting ready for the general session in about 45 minutes. Have a great Sunday!

  1. Thanks for passing that message along. That was great of Matt to stay home with Jackson so you could go. The few times I have gone without my family (although I love sitting by my hubby in all of our church meetings) I have taken awesome notes on the talks given as it seems you did.

  2. Does that mean you've found a house? Hoorah! Good for you!

Thanks for the message. I love that--that we need to be able to receive inspiration no matter where we are. My YW lesson was on that today! Thanks for uplifting me!
