This afternoon, approximately sometime, the easily-named "Thomas" fish swam his last lap around the tank. He was spotted in the late afternoon with his side up against the aerator, presumably dead (otherwise he was very dumb and try to pull a "Nemo" by swimming in sideways). When the aerator was turned off, said fish floated to the top. Cause of death is unknown, but with a goldfish, two days could be a record. Services were held in the newly redecorated upstairs bathroom. Pallbearer was Daddy with Jackson as an Honorary Pallbearer.
Thomas Fish is survived by tank-mate Tasha and owner Jackson. His legacy includes such questions as "Where's Thomas Fish?" and dreams of pet hermit crabs instead of goldfish. (Mommy hears they last longer.)
Poor Jackson. Best of luck in the pet department!

ReplyDeleteGoldfish can actually live quite a long while. We had some that lived for years (back when we kept fish) but we always had to buy them in batches because they don't always come from the pet store in great condition. If you buy three you might get one that lives longer. It might depend on the pet store, too. And don't buy the 10 cent fish.
ReplyDeleteI'd advise against hermit crabs. Their habitats get all moldy and gross because of the humidity.
You know this makes me wonder how long Thomas fish lived before he was purchased? You might have beened duped into buying a grandfather goldfish... you never know.

I don't know, Lisa, Keri's 10 cent fish that she bought just for a babysitting gig years ago is still alive and ginormous. I'm glad there's no mention of Jackson bawling his eyes out or anything, sounds like he handled it okay
ReplyDeletewe kill fish and birds at our house. we have stuck to cats and dogs. lost 2 dogs, had one put down, so not a good record there either.

Condolences. We're so sorry for your loss. I'm sure he was a wonderful fish. We've killed many a fish around here...enough that my mom threatened to report us for pet abuse. :) Good luck with Tasha!
