A Decade Ago

 A Decade Ago
(by Mommy)

So long ago, it was, a decade
And yet, it feels like yesterday
You came so quickly, a stay so brief
I couldn’t dam the flood of grief

Your tiny form lay in Daddy’s hands there
I could only watch as you would gasp for air
Not a sound you made, yet so peaceful and sweet
When you parted your body, you looked sound asleep

For a few moments, there, we knew you were gone—
Returned to our Father, back to our heavenly home
But a sweet gift from Heaven, although at rest
You were close by as I finally held your body on my chest

Your mission was then not yet understood
For years the pain clouded the good
Grief is selfish and stings like hot steel
And, yet, somehow time allows the heart to heal

A whisper, a dream, a feeling, a tear
To let us know when you are near
Sacred moments wrapped in our hearts
Remind us that it’s only a brief moment that we’re apart

A decade has come and gone away,
But you, Daughter, are thought of every day
Our perfect Angel, Clarissa, we are blessed
That you have already passed the test

Happy 10th Birthday, Sweet Angel!
